Brief Journey Through Time

By Dr. Robert Emerson French (2022)

The sage is a timeless spirit endowed with love for music and science, and with an unfulfilled wish to sail the seven seas as a celestial navigator, wondering what lies beyond the horizon. Though he’d gained sponsorship by Milutin Milanković (who discovered the keys to the Ice Ages), determination to earn his own bread and keep bound him to his job as a humble laboratory assistant at Princeton University. Like Moses, whose wanderings never quite brought him in sight of the Promised Land, the sage sometimes went east when seeking to go west, and vice versa seeking the Garden of Eden.

By another scribe, the sage might have been Lemuel Gulliver, traveling to Lilliput; or John Bunyan’s “Christian”–or perhaps Captain Cook’s first mate on the Endeavor. In female gender, the sage might have been Joan of Arc, or Harriet Tubman, or Irène Joliot-Curie.

In modern times, the sage would be a member of the American Scientific Affiliation, exploring complementary relationships between science and theology while seeking an Eternal Perspective.
